![]() In the above scenario Frodo would be unable to retreat since he can only retreat sideways and you can not retreat sideways when you are in the mountain regions. In the above scenario Frodo could either retreat to the area to his right or left. If by retreating the player would either move into another area occupied by Sauron, would enter an area where the maximum number of characters are already present, the player would move sideways through the mountains, or backwards through the Tunnel of Moria they are not allowed to retreat. If they decide to retreat the Fellowship player follows the retreat rule (backwards or sideways). If the Fellowship player wants to retreat they need to retreat before the Sauron player deals with their character ability (except for the Warg which will stop the Fellowship player from retreating). Some of the Fellowship characters have the ability to retreat. If the Sauron character in battle is the Warg the Fellowship character’s special ability is not read. If the special ability of the Fellowship character ends the battle, the Sauron character is unable to play any cards or use their character’s ability to alter the battle. The Fellowship player gets to use their special ability first if applicable, followed by the Sauron player. #2 Resolve Character Abilities: Every character has a special ability in the game which may affect the battle. #1 Reveal Characters: Both players reveal the character that is in the battle. ![]() If an opponent’s character is not hidden the player can choose to fight that character or they can randomly select one of the unrevealed characters. If there are two or more characters in the region being attacked, the attacking player gets to choose which enemy to attack. The player who moved into the space is the attacker while the other player is the defender. When a character moves into a space that is occupied by a character of the opposing faction, a battle ensues. In the above scenario, Aragorn can only move forward into either the Misty Mountains or The High Pass. If a player uses the Tunnel of Moria and there is a Sauron character in Caradhras, the Fellowship character does not fight the Sauron character. These movements count as normal “forward” movements. These special movements only apply in the direction the arrow is pointing and do not apply in the opposite direction.
